This fall, I'll be teaching two new classes at the Beverly Arts Center on Chicago's south side:

Classes will run on Thursday evenings starting on Sept. 12

Intro to Music Improvisation - (8 weeks) Thursdays, 7-8pm

Learn how to play a solo on your instrument, and jam with other musicians. In this class students will learn the basics of how to craft a solo. Using the building blocks of music theory and ear training, students will gain the ability to comfortably improvise over a variety of musical genres, and learn to find their own voice and style on their instrument. Students should have some basic proficiency on their instrument (i.e the ability to play clear notes/ chords) for admission.

Mindfulness Meditation for Performers and Creatives (4 weeks) Thursdays (6-7pm)

Learn the basics and benefits of mindfulness meditation and apply them to your creative life. Students will develop their own mindfulness practice, and each week we will explore how our inner worlds affect our creativity and performance in the arts. Topics will include self-confidence, performance anxiety, “connecting” to your art, and resilience when facing obstacles. Mindfulness can be a powerful tool for developing clarity, purpose, and bringing your most authentic self to your art and performance.
